Care Must be Taken When Crimping Clamp Collars onto a Hydraulic Hose. Previously Available Only Through Equipment Dealerships, Clamp Collars are Common on Many Types of Construction Equipment. The Collars are Actually Crimped onto a Hydraulic Hose, Reducing Hose Movement & Minimizing Abrasion. If the Crimp is too Tight, the Hose Will be Crushed, Dramatically Reducing its Service Life. If the Crimp is too Loose, the Collar Could Slide Along Hose's Length Causing Abrasion & Eventual Hose Cover Failure. Clamp Collars Must be Crimped Before the Hose Couplings. Use the Following Instruction to Determine Crimp Diameter, Which Can Then be Used to Find Crimping Settings in Gates Crimp Data Manual (428-7365 Auto./35019 Ind.). First, Measure the Hose Outside Diameter at the Location Where Clamp Collar Will be Crimped. This Can be Accomplished by Using a Pie Tape or the Average Hose Outside Diameter Measured w/ a Dial Caliper. Second, Measure Wall Thickness of Clamp Collar w/ a Dial Caliper. Last, Obtain Crimp Diameter by Adding Hose Outside Diameter to Twice the Clamp Collar Wall Thickness; Crimp Diameter - (Hose O.D.) + (2 x .065).
